Meet us…

Nathanial (Chef Ziggy) & wife Chef Chelsie Sigsbey have always been inspired by food for as long as they can remember…

Chef Ziggy has had a passion for cooking ever since a child. He watched his mother cook meals from scratch daily. Chef grew up in Traverse City, MI. Here, the ability to find wonderfully fresh and locally sourced food was always in abundance. After high school Chef moved around the country for several years. He worked varies jobs before coming back to the place he loved the most, Northern Michigan.

While attending college at the Great Lakes Culinary Institute in 2011 Chef Ziggy got recruited by a peer to cook at Trattoria Stella. In a few years he quickly moved up the ranks and became Sous Chef. He took great pride in showing others how to improve their skills and become better cooks. After 8 years of an incredible learning experience with James Beard nominated Chef Myles Anton, Chef Ziggy had an opportunity to set out on his own journey of farm, food and family. So began 2 the Moon Catering which was created in the spring of 2019.

Much like Chef Ziggy, Chelsie watched her mother, grandmothers, and great-grandmother bake delectable treats as a child in her hometown of Lake City, MI. When she grew her interests for the culinary world did as well. She knew that she wanted to further her knowledge for the profession.

Right out of high school, in 2012, Chelsie set out to study at the Great Lakes Culinary Institute. Here, she met Ziggy during her final semester in the mock-restaurant class. Their love for each other, and the culinary world, grew into a shared passion.

While in Traverse City Chelsie worked with a at Grand Traverse Pie Co., Good Harbor Coffee and Bakery, and 9 Bean Rows. working on her baking and barista skills.

The prestigious duo purchased a house in Traverse and got married in the fall of 2016 where they have resided for the last four years. Flash forward to the spring of 2020 the pair had a big opportunity to purchase an historic building in Chelsie’s hometown of Lake City. They decided to sell their house in Traverse and began renovating the old building in the downtown area.

The building, which was originally built in 1919-1920 as a real estate, insurance and abstract business. It became the first post office in Lake City around the early 1930’s and has seen several other businesses occupy it since the post office relocated to a newer building just behind it in the early 1960’s. The Sigsbey’s are still restoring the building back to it’s former glory while creating a vintage atmosphere for the bakery and café. The name of which will heir the name, 2 The Moon.

More of their story to come…
